Centre 3.0 is now released! It is the result of more than a year of development and packs new features, usability and stability improvements in all existing modules – while adding a few more ... The main objectives of this release have been to improve stability of the software, increase its reach and facilitate the development of a user Community around Centre SIS.
The main new features of Centre SIS v3.0 are:
- Localization – with the addition of language packs, the user interface, custom fields and reports can now be localized in any language. Users can select their language at the login screen. The French, Spanish and Turkish language packs are available today, and the creation of additional language packs can be done in a few hours.
- Library Management module (commercial module) – thanks to a complete integration with OpenBiblio, Centre SIS can now manage your school library, create a public catalogue, assign fees and fines for late or damaged books, print barcoded student cards, etc.
- Online Resources module – for any Open Source project, there is nothing harder than producing good documentation and giving quality user support. We have decided to take a drastic step in solving those issues by providing a framework in which a Centre Community can blossom and help us with those tasks. The Online Resources module will provide access to shared, online resources designed to enrich your Centre experience – starting with an Online Documentation wiki that anyone can edit and help become more relevant over time, Support Forums, so you can have access to the entire Centre Community for support directly from within Center, and Online Translation so anybody can help us increase the reach of Centre by providing localized software for non-English speakers,
- Grading module improvements – Transcripts have probably been the most asked feature by our users. Not only are transcripts now included in Centre SIS, but you can also fully customize your transcript template, and import historical grades from legacy or state systems. GPA, class rank, and credits have been improved. And finally, you now have the option to have multiple Report Card comments code scales in order to provide even more flexibility for adapting Centre to how you are grading students.
- Stability improvements – Stability is our top priority with Centre, and we always thrive to correct any known defects from one version to the next. We have taken this credo to new heights with the 3.0 release by holding back on a release while selected customers were testing it throughout the summer.
